William Francis played power poker en route to victory at Concept Midweek Game #3 in Maitland on Thursday night.
William built up a big stack among the final two tables. And he applied the pressure with his chip advantage, completing the most knockouts among the final 9 as he took down the tourney.
This came after an exciting field of 37 players entered the tournament (including the two Concept committee members on duty).
FINAL TABLE REPOR
9th place: Riyadh Slamang
With the game on the final table bubble, there was a three way all in between Riyadh Slamang, Rashad Osendorp and Strini Govender. Riyadh shoved under the gun with AK, which saw Rashad go all in too with pocket 9s. Strini Govender went all in over the top On The Button, isolating both players with pocket Aces. Strini’s big pair held, which saw both players eliminated. Riyadh gets 9th place league points as he had more chips than Rashad.
8th place: Cliton Taliwanth
Cliton found himself all in with A10 and got called by Strini, who tabled pocket 8s. Strini’s pair held up to see Cliton exit
7th place: Bentley Louw
Bentley was boxing with the short stack, and with the blinds coming around, he shoved all in with Q7. Unfortunately, he ran into William’s pocket Qs, which was enough for the knockout.
6th place: Bradley Jansen
Bradley shoved all in with pocket 5s on dealer position, and was called off by William, who woke up with AJ in the small blind. The Ace flopped to give William the pot win.
5th place: Pine Pienaar
Pine went all in with QJ and he got called by Barry Stemmet with K10. King high was good enough to send Pine to the rail.
4th place: Chad Bennett
Chad was the short stack on the table, and with A4, he spiked a middle pair of 4s on the flop and went all in. But it was bad timing as he got called by William, who flopped a set of 3s to win the pot.
3rd place: Barry Stemmet 🥉
On an all heart flop, Barry moved all in with a Jack flush draw and a pair of 3s on the board. He got called by Strini, who had a bigger flush draw with the Q♥️. The fourth heart on the turn saw Strini score the knockout.
2nd place: Strini Govender 🥈
With even chip stacks, William and Strini agreed to a fair split on the remaining 7000 prize money, taking 3500 apiece. They decided to flip one hand for the points – which saw Strini (J6) spike top pair on a J109 flop. However, William, with 75 ♣️ suited, hit the bottom straight as an 8 opened on the Turn.
1st place: William Francis 🥇
Well done to all the winners!
BONUS POINTS
Bounty: Rashad Osendorp knocked out defending champ Robin Kayalsum after the break and earns two bonus log points.
Special hands: In addition to the tourney win, William Francis ran quad Kings for two bonus log points. Rashad also hit quad Queens (in a hand against Kings) to score 2 more log points, taking his bonus tally to 4.
