Strini Govender, Shameegh Suarez and Robin Laguma were the big winners in the inaugural Vickey Moodley Poker Cup on Sunday.
What an entertaining poker grind!
In a field of 52 players, the tournament pool offered R90 000 in prizes!
The final 3 decided on an equal split as the chip lead exchanged hands during the last few races. They each took him R20 500 for a good days work, with a R500 surplus used to tip the dealers.
Strini Govender finished in 1st with the biggest stack of 7.5mil, and will be recognised as the champion on the day. Shameegh Suarez (5.5mil) and Robin Laguma (4.4mil) finished in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
It was a good result for Strini, who’s fresh off a R600 Turbo victory and a debut run in the Montecasino High Roller, where he made final table.
Shameegh gets another big result, having won the Cape Town Poker Open earlier this year, while Robin will be delighted with a big cash on the local live scene.
Clinton Reddy was the overwhelming chip leader among the final 4 as he ran hot on final table.
Unfortunately, he suffered a major blow up following a huge loss with AJ against Shameegh’s AK. He eventually finished in 4th place to cash R9000.
Riyadh Slamang battled bravely with the short stack but eventually got caught in 5th spot. He shoved on the button with Q9 into Robin’s pocket Aces in the blinds, which held up.
Jane Charlton made the money in 6th place with a very impressive performance. She got knocked out when shoving A6 on an Ace-high board on the River into Clinton, who tanked and made the call with A9 for a better kicker.
Satellite winner Ryan Adams played a solid game but unfortunately fell out in 7th place. He lost a flip with AQ against Robin’s pocket 9s, which hit a set on the Turn.
Christo Kruger finished in 8th place as he was all in with A10. He ran into Robin, who called with Jacks and held up.
Cas du Toit was the FORTUNATE bubble boy as he got knocked out in 9th place. He was all in pocket 10s but lost the race against Clinton, who hit two pair with AQ.
Cas wins a MonsterJam R15 000 Main Event seat for the Grandwest series, which offers a R1mil first prize guarantee. If he cashes, 50% of the winnings will be donated to the Moodley family.
This prize was generously donated by Ahmed Karriem and Lauren Piha, in collaboration with MonsterJam Poker.
