Stephen Courtney took down the R8000 Freezeout at the Montecasino Poker Series in Joburg on Tuesday night.
The Top 6 decided on an ICM split, which saw Stephen win R101 000 for first place. A great return on his R8000 entry!
The other players agreed to a share of R72000-R62000 respectively.
This is Stephen’s second big cash on the big stage this year, having made the final table at the MonsterJam Main Event in Pretoria.
Stephen has dedicated his big result to Vickey Moodley, who also entered the tourney but tragically passed away after a positive showing on Day 1. Vickey would’ve started Day 2 with a Top 20 stack (over 140 000 chips).
“I had a terrible Day 1 as the cards really ran bad for me. But I managed to build great momentum on Day 2,” explained Stephen.
“After the Day 2 redraw, I received the same seat Vickey sat in on Day 1. I was lucky enough to remain in that same seat for all the sessions on Day 2, even on final table! I didn’t move once throughout the day, and I was able to play my way to first place!”
Stephen has dedicated a portion of his winnings to the Moodley family.
