SHADLEY, VICKY STAR IN CONCEPT WPT MAGIC

Shadley Abrahams and Vicky Moodley ended up with top prizes at the biggest WPT Satellite ever hosted in Cape Town on Thursday evening.

A total of 46 players entered the exciting one-shield event in Goodwood, which guaranteed two WPT Main Event packages! This includes a four night stay at 4⭐️ Mondior Hotel at Emperors Palace and a seat at the Main Event to the biggest poker tournament in Africa – the World Poker Tour leg in Johannesburg.

And while the fire place was blazing on the side, the real heat was on the poker tables, where there was plenty of bad beats, amazing comebacks and top poker play. Especially with our talented dealers, handing out more coolers than an ice cream truck during the school holidays.

Starting from six full tables, we eventually ended up with a final 8. This after two quick eliminations to burst the final table bubble.

Dylan Hughes (K10) and Matt Fabing (A3) were all in with short stacks, which saw Grant Rea call with Q10. And while Grant was dominated, his gamble paid off as the board ran Q-high to secure the double knockout.

Pat Naidoo then played terminator, knocking out Howard Gabriels (9th) and Shane Solomons (8th) in quick succession.

Pine Pienaar, who put up a good fight on the night, followed them to the rail in 6th as he shoved his stack with A8, on a K84 flop. Vicky called with KJ. And while Pine hit an A on the river, a runner runner ♠️ meant Vicky ended up with a K high flush.

Grant then requested a deal, but this plea was rejected by the table. This saw an intense battle for 50mins ensue as the players played tight on the prize bubble.

A rollercoaster ride of all ins eventually saw Grant fall short, losing his all in with J♣️J♠️. He got called by Pat with AK ♥️ suited and Shadley A♣️8♠️ off. The flop ran low in Grant’s favour, but runner runner ♣️ put four clubs on the board, which saw Shadley win the pot with an Ace high flush and Grant finish in 5th place.

While Pat built a big stack early on during final table, he lost chips in big hands – including a set of 2s against Vicky and a few blows against Shadley.

He eventually finished in 4th after he walked into a trap set by Vicky. In a three-way pot, Vicky limped in with AQ under the gun, disguising the strength of his hand. Pat checked the big blind with QJ, and saw a Q85 flop. Pat shoved with his stack in first action, which saw Shadley fold and Vicky snap call. The AQ outkicked Pat, who secured the first cash prize.

On the WPT bubble, Anton van Eerden put up a fight against Vicky and Shadley’s big stacks. After winning the first three all ins, the player from Blouberg started building good momentum.

However, this was cut short when he shoved with K9 ♦️ suited in small blind, and received a big call from Shadley with Q♣️10♦️.

The board ran four ♣️s again, which saw Vicky and Shadley win the packages.

This saw Vicky and Shadley finishing in joint first place.
