Robin Kayalsum played his way to the top prize of R8500 in the R600 Turbo on Thursday night.
Robin was last man standing in a tough field of 35 players after running golden on final table as he couldn’t lose a hand.
He won all his major races in showdown and he enjoyed fortuitous run-outs when he found himself behind, notably among the Top 4.
With blinds at 400 000/800 000/50 000, Robin won all 6 hands in the heads-up battle against Gareth Duncan – who couldn’t catch any momentum.
With the blinds eating his short stack, Gareth eventually had to shove with K5, and ran into Robin’s K10, which held up on a dry board. Gareth earned R5000 for second place.
Suvir Doodnath got unlucky to finish in 3rd place. Robin put pressure on the smaller stacks when he shoved on the button, and Suvir made a good call in the big blind with KJ ♥️ suited. Robin opened 96 ♣️ suited, which flopped the 9 and dodged the over cards for a big pot.
Imraan Khan ended in 4th place as he shoved with A10 over Robin’s UTG raise. Robin snap called with Queens, which held up for another big pot.
Terry Hangone sneaked into the money in 5th place. He was pushed all in with pocket 5s and was racing against Robbie’s A9, which flopped an Ace. Terry had outs when he turned a flush draw, but the River blanked to end his tournament run.
Keegan Naidoo was the unfortunate bubble boy as he shoved all in with KJ in the small blind. Suvir called with pocket 3s in the big blind and held up. The Flop came all ♠️ spades, which created a more comfortable run-out as Suvir had the only ♠️ spade among the two hands in play.
Preston Jonas enjoyed a deep run to finish in 7th place. He shoved his short stack with QJ over Gareth’s raise in cut-off, with the latter making the call with A9. Preston flopped a Jack, but running hearts gave Gareth the nut flush.
Nigel Heldsinger (who finished 1st and 3rd in recent R600 Turbos) made another final table, but was unfortunately the first player out among the Top 8 on this occasion. He moved all in with Jacks against Robin’s over-the-top shove with AK. The Ace flopped to crack the pocket pair.
Overall, it was a highly-entertaining night of poker from start to finish, boasting a prize pool of R21 500!
Plenty of value for a R600 investment, especially with R8500 for first place.
It was good welcoming some new faces in Dan Wolman and Moses Egbichi, while we also had surprise visits from our friends Danie Hougaard and Jared Smith from Pollsmoor Poker in Tokai, who run a R450 Live Freezeout on Monday nights.
Our attention now turns to the R1000 Concept Grand Slam on Sunday, which promises to be great day of poker.
The last two Concept Grand Slams have put up *R16 000 for first place*, and an average *prize pool of R45 000!*
Look out for satellites in the PokerBros club to win your seats for cheap.
We hope to see you there!
