ROBBIE KAYALSUM’S MIRACLE U-TURN TO VICTORY

Robin Kayalsum was on the brink of elimination, but a patient rebuild saw him take down Concept Midweek Game #25 in Goodwood on Thursday.

Shortly after the break, Robin Kayalsum was ready to go home after a bad beat with Aces. Getting it all in on the big blind versus pocket 10s, his tournament was nearly derailed on a 10 9 10 flop – death by quads. But after a chip recount request by Concept committee member Vicky Moodley on the table, he realised he still had 6000 chips left. He then quadrupled-up in a four-way pot and was back in the game.

Despite another bad beat with Aces among the final three tables, when he lost to a set of 6s on the River, he still had enough steam to be the last man standing in a field of 39 players.

It was a tough final table battle, which saw Shane Solomons eliminated first in 9th. After losing most of his chips with AQ against Cern Williams’ pocket 10s – which flopped a set – Shane shoved the short stack with Q2 ♣️ suited. Ironically, he got called by Cern – tabling pocket 10s again. The pair held up for the knockout.

Kyle Schreuder made a move at the wrong time, which saw him hit the rail in 8th. Cern raised in early position before receiving a big push-back from Kyle, who went all in from the big blind. Cern made the sizable call with AQ, which dominated Kyle’s A2 and held up.

Bradley Jansen managed to get the table to agree to bubble prize, which meant the final 7 made the money.

And it was Wang who ended up with the bubble prize in what was a influential hand in the tournament.

Bradley shoved on the button, which received a call from Cern in the small blind. Clinton Reddy shoved over the top in the big blind, which saw Cern tank. After much deliberation and despite favourable pot odds, Cern open folded AK, which proved to be the wrong decision.

Bradley tabled 8s against Clinton’s AQ. The board ran K109 Q K, which saw Clinton win a massive pot and Wang out in 7th.

Shaun Julie – making his first Concept final table of the season – was eliminated in 6th in bad beat fashion. Cern made a steaming raise with A9, which saw Shaun go all in on the big blind. Cern made the big call, but found himself dominated against Shaun’s AQ. However, the board ran 1093 2 9, giving Cern the pot win.

Lauren Darvall – making her second final table in Women’s Month – was out in 5th due to another bad beat. She got it in good with 4s and got called by Clinton with 43 in the big blind. But Clinton managed to hit a straight on a 556 7 A board to see Lauren eliminated.

The bad beats came rushing in as Jason Fried was burnt in 4th. He was all in and ahead with A7 ♠️ suited when called by Robbie in the big blind with A4 ♦️ suited. Jason shot ahead when he spiked a pair on a K73 flop. But Robbie hit runner-runner 2, 5 to complete a straight on the River.

Cern was next to hit the rail when he called a massive move by Clinton in the big blind. In blind vs blind action, Cern raised before Clinton went all in over the top. Cern made the big call with 4s, while Clinton tabled Q10. But the latter hit a 10 on the flop to take a massive pot.

After failing to agree a deal in the tourney heads-up battle, Robbie took the ascendancy – despite being out-chipped 3 to 1.

An early double-up allowed him to lay the trap as he caught Clinton all in and behind with bottom pair on a QJ8 6 board. The River blanked for Clinton’s 76, which saw Robbie hold up and win with Q4 – his third Concept scalp of the season, putting him in a good position in the league title race with 13 fixtures left.
