Allan Ranzani came back from less than a blind to take down the R600 Turbo on Thursday night.
They don’t call him Allan the Magician for nothing!
Since the days of the Sharks Poker Club in Claremont, Allan has always found a way to defy the poker odds.
Whether it’s with the worst hand or when needing a 1-outer (ask Immie), he always pulls a rabbit out of the hat to get there.
And he did just that at Concept with a memorable tournament run.
On the final table bubble, Allan lost a big race with pocket 2s against Gus Leslie’s A5 (full house) to be left with 40 000 chips.
With blinds at 50000-100000-100000, he was all in UTG with 2 callers. He tripled up with K6 after spiking top pair. Two more double-ups followed with Kings and A6, while he also caught a big pot with 74 ♦️ suited to complete a miraculous turnaround.
Allan was able to carry that momentum all the way to heads-up, where he was chip leader against Francis Vanderlinden.
The Top 2 agreed on a deal, which saw Allan finish first with R7500 cash. Francis accepted R6500 for second place.
William enjoyed a good tournament run before finishing in 3rd place. He was eliminated when Allan spiked an Ace with A3.
Gus boxed with the small stack towards the end of the tournament, and was forced all in among the blinds. Allan scored the knockout with J10, hitting the Jack on the flop.
Danie Hougaard was all in with A4, and got called by Francis and Allan. Danie managed to hit a 4 on the flop, but of course, The Magician hits a set with A3 on a 104363 board. Danie fell out in 5th place.
Nigel Heldsinger hit the rail in 6th place when he shoved K7 ♦️ suited in the big blind. He was called by Francis, who tabled pocket 3s and held up.
A bubble prize was created for 7th place, which was collected by Ryan Johnson.
Ryan got eliminated in an action hand. On a Q♦️9♦️5♣️ flop, Allan shoved with 74 ♦️ suited against two other players. Ryan shoved all in over the top with QJ, while William called behind with KQ. The Turn brought a 10♠️ before the River delivered a J♦️ to gift Allan the main pot. William picked up the side pot with a straight, beating Ryan’s two pair.
Gareth Duncan fell on the money bubble in 8th place, but picked up extra Player of the Year points for making final table.
All in all, we had 41 players enter the tourney, with 27 lifelines taken, creating a *prize pool of R26000!*
