Kershnee Julie hit hot form at the right time to surge to victory at Concept Midweek Game #27 in Goodwood on Thursday night.
After a patient approach to final table, where she was grinding as one of the shorter stacks, Kersh managed to pick up vital pot wins to build the chip lead among the final 4 players. From that point on, there was no stopping her as the cards played out in her favour. This saw the only women’s player to win a Concept title this year earn her second triumph of the season.
From a field of 39 players, there was an action-packed final table, with many sick swings of ups and downs.
The final 9 agreed to create bubble prizes for 7th, 8th and 9th place, which meant everyone made the money.
Play started with bad beats for Dylan Hughes and Chad Hughes as father and son found themselves way ahead, only to lose pots to the short stacks.
First Dylan had Naytan Beukes dominated with AQ versus AJ all in pre-flop, but the Jack flopped to give Naytan the major pot win, which allowed him to build a big stack.
Then Keegan Florence cracked Chad’s pocket Kings with 98 – all in pre-flop. Keegan managed to hit two pair as he spiked an 8 on the Flop and a 9 on the River.
Strini Govender was eventually first player out in 9th as his initial trap backfired. He lost most of his chips when limping in with pocket Kings in early position, which was followed by three calls and a check from the big blind. After everyone checked an Ace high flop, Kemal Kahn managed to turn a set of 5s with 56 to win a big pot as Strini bluffed all in at the wrong time.
Strini then shipped the last of his chips with KJ, which was called and dominated by Naytan’s AJ. The Ace flopped for the first elimination.
Keegan Florence was out in 8th when he shipped with A10. He ran into Kersh’s pocket Qs, which held up.
Gareth Duncan was out in 7th in bad beat circumstances. He raised with A8 ♣️ suited in late position, which forced Dylan Hughes all in with A4 ♥️ suited – the latter dominated preflop. But fortunes changed on the flop, which ran out 4♣️10♥️ K♥️. A 10♠️ on the Turn gave Gareth some extra outs, but the River bricked, gifting Dylan a million-chip pot. Gareth was all in with KQ in the next hand, and ironically called by Dylan in the small blind with A9, which held up on a dry board.
Nathaniel Beukes was boxing with a short stack throughout final table, but his fight came to an end when he was knocked out in 6th place. His KJ was dominated by Kemal’s AK ♦️ suited, which was good enough to take down the hand.
Naytan couldn’t continue his early run-good form on final table as his stack dwindled down and he was eventually out in 5th. He went all in with pocket 6s, which was called by Kersh, holding KQ ♠️ suited. The Queen flopped to send Naytan to the rail.
The final 4 agreed to split the money, which saw chip leader Dylan guaranteed 2900, while Kemal, Chad and Kersh pocketed 2100 each. They would play for a 650 balance and the league points.
Chad was next out in 4th when he was all in with AK. He was called by Kemal with pocket 7s, which turned a set.
However, Kemal exited soon thereafter in 3rd place when he shoved with A8. He was called by Dylan in the big blind with J9, and on a Jack-high flop, managed to hold up to secure the knockout.
Dylan and Kersh agreed to a three-handed flip for the points, which saw Kersh win with 10-5 off against AK in the decisive hand, spiking the 10 on the River to take down the tourney.
