KERSH JULIE WINS CONCEPT SEASON OPENER!

Kersh Julie takes down Concept Poker opener

Kershnee Julie beat 37 other players as she took down Concept Poker’s 2019 season opener, which proved to be the club’s biggest-ever game.

An original Concept Poker Club member since 2016, Kersh will be the first to tell you about her poor form last year.

“I did not win one game! The cards just didn’t run for me in 2018. It was very frustrating!”

But her fortune definitely changed for the better this year as she won first prize in the opening Midweek League game of 2019, which also proved to be Concept Poker Club’s biggest-ever playing field with 38 players.

And she did so respectfully, showing the best hand heads-up with A-9 off against the 2018 Concept Poker Club champion Dylan Barnard.

Kersh gained the chip lead after eliminating Grant Rea in third place. Grant shoved with K H Q D against Kersh, who woke up with Aces. She snapped called and held up.

Another notable hand saw Kersh eliminate Riyad Khan, who finished second at the World Poker Tour last October. Kersh tabled A S J S, which hit a straight on the river against Riyad’s A H 9 D (two pair).

“It definitely felt good winning. I had a slow start to the tournament, but my form picked up during the last stretch. The games are always dominated by men, so this one goes out to all the ladies!” said Kersh.

It was great to see that the two women in the field both make the final table – Carmen September finishing in a respectable eighth place after arriving to the final 9 with the short stack.

MIDWEEK LEAGUE GAME #1 RESULTS:

1 Kershnee Julie
2 Dyland Barnard
3 Grant Rea
4 Stuart Francis
5 Vicki Moodley
6 Brian “Papa” Minaar
7 Nigel Heldsinger
8 Carmen September
9 Earl Haupt

BAD BEAT OF THE GAME

The bad beat of the day definitely goes to Dylan Hughes, who was eliminated by Shane Pillay.

After the flop landed 10 D 9 C 8 C, Shane bet out into a small pot before Dylan jammed over the top. Shane tanked, contemplating calling off 90% of his stack. “Well… good luck, Dylan” he said before calling the bet.

Dylan tabled 10 C 7 C for a up and down straight flush draw with top pair, leaving Shane’s J S 2 S in dire straights. Especially after the turn showed 3 D.

But in typical dramatic poker fashion, Shane ended up hitting a six-outer, a non-club 7 on the river to win the hand… sending a despondent Dylan to the rail.
