Jaime Sauls and Imraan Khan were the big winners in the Montecasino R500 Satellite on Sunday.
The two players had the bigger stacks among the final 3, who decided on a split among the R40 000 prize pool.
They both decided to take R14 000 vouchers, while Gareth Duncan accepted R12 000 as the shorter stack.
It will be Jaime’s first trip to Jozi to play in the big leagues, where he will compete against some of Africa’a best poker players.
He ran like God for most of the tournament, hitting flops hard and mixing good bluffs en route to the tournament win.
Imraan continues his good form in the Monte satellites, securing his third prize and building a nice bankroll for the upcoming series, which kicks off next week.
Gareth will be happy with the R12 000 addition to his bankroll as he aims to play in the R5000 semi-freeze (16 July) and R8000 freezeout (18 July), the latter tournament offering a guarantee of R250 000 for first prize.
Patrick Perez was the unfortunate bubble boy as he was forced all in among the blinds. He boxed very well with the short stack until that point, but lost to Imraan, who had a higher kicker card on a dry board.
Chris Gin made his first appearance at Concept Social Poker Club, and enjoyed a very good tournament run on his debut. He was unfortunately eliminated in 5th place after chasing a ♦️ flush draw against Gareth, who scored the knockout with two-pairs.
Richard Birks came out of the poker coffers to make a rare appearance at Concept. He played a solid game throughout, but also fell to a failed flush draw. He shoved over the top on Jaime’s bet on a A♦️Q♣️5♦️ flop, which received a snap call. Richard tabled K9 ♦️ for the nut flush draw against Jaime’s trip Queens. The Turn and River bricked to give the latter a notable chip lead.
Vickey Moodley fell short of the money after a pre-flop cooler against Jaime. Jaime raised in Hijack position, which saw Vickey shove all in from the big blind with 10s. Jaime snap called with Aces, which held up on a 9-high board.
Francis Chetty finished in 8th place as he had bad timing shoving with the small stack with Q8 ♣️ suited from late position. He got called off by Imraan, who woke up with Queens in the small blind and held up.
All in all, it was a great turnout. We had 29 players entered, creating a prize pool of R40 000.
