Imraan Khan took first place at Concept Midweek Game #34 in Goodwood on Wednesday night, moving him to the top of the overall log.
After securing an astonishing hat-trick of tournament wins earlier in the season, Immie finally earned his fourth victory this past week. This sees him leapfrog Vicky Moodley into top spot on the standings.
Both players sit on 145 log points, but Immie takes the lead with a superior tournament win ratio – the two players are neck-and-neck in the challenge for the 2019 title.
And with just three fixtures remaining (2 Midweek Games and 1 Quarterly “Double Point” Game), the race for a Top 9 position on the table is heating up with 35 players holding a realistic mathematical chance of making the league cash.
On the night, Imraan showed his class to soldier through a field of 32 players for victory. Down to less than two blinds at a late stage of the game, a double-up with Aces set the stage for his final table run.
And Imraan secured the first knockout as Barry Stemmet exited in 9th place. Barry was all in with A3, which was called by Immie’s QJ. The latter won on a Jack-high board.
Keegan Florence was next to hit the rail in 8th place. He shoved with A4 and found himself dominated when called by Jeremy Jodamus’s AQ. It was murder she wrote when the Queen flopped.
Vicky Moodley was out in 7th place when he was all in with A10. He ran into Kemal Kahn, who called with AQ and spiked a Queen for the pot.
Bentley Louw was the unfortunate bubble boy in bad beat circumstances. Moving in with pocket Qs, he was called by Imraan, who tabled A2. The Ace flopped to secure the hand.
Patrick Perez was all in shortly thereafter with KJ, and was called by Jeremy, who tabled A7. The Ace flopped to send Patrick home in 5th place.
Kemal became the short stack and was eventually all in with 56. He was matched by Imraan with KJ, and hit the King to score the knockout.
Adam Morley was enjoying hot form all night but ran out of steam during the business end of the tournament. He exited in 3rd place when he moved in his chips with QJ. He was called by Imraan’s K9, which spiked a King.
The decisive hand saw Jeremy all in with 45, which went up against Imraan’s K7. On the River, Immie hit a four-card flush with the K♣️ to triumph.
