Gareth Duncan made it two tournament wins in three weeks when he took down Concept Midweek Game #16 at Goodwood Cricket Club on Thursday night.
Gareth was on a major heater midway through the tournament, knocking out players and building his way into a major chip lead among the final two tables.
After many ups and downs during a tough battle on final table, he found himself the short stack among the final three with Diren Naidoo and Kemal Khan but battled back to capture his second crown of the season. This makes him the biggest mover on the overall log in recent weeks, jumping from 32nd to 4th spot in just 18 days.
Imraan Khan was out in 9th without even seeing a hand on the final table. Consecutive knock-outs on each of the last two tables saw Pine Pienaar eliminated in 10th by Franklin Jodamus – his 9s held up against K3 – before Robin Kayalsum sent Immie to the rail after a hitting a two-pair with A10.
However, Robin found himself following Imraan to the rail a few rounds later in 8th. He lost a big portion of his stack with AJ against Gareth’s Qs, and relinquished the rest of it when he hit a lower two-card flush against Frankie – Q-high vs 9-high on three-❤️ board.
Kyle Crowie, who was making back-to-back final table appearances, battled with a small stack and was looking for a jump into the money. However, his valiant effort was brought to an end when he shoved with K3 and was beaten by Franklin’s A9. He finished in 7th.
Play then began to open up…
Jeremey Quinton made his first final table of the season in just his third Concept appearance. He had bad timing, unfortunately, when his gamble with J10 suited ♣️ ran into Kemal’s As. Jeremy was knocked out in 6th.
Franklin was next out when he shoved all in on the button with A9 suited ♦️. He got called by Gareth in the blinds, holding AJ off. It was an action flop as A♥️K♦️10♦️ opened up. But the turn and river bricked to send Franklin home in 5th.
Iekraam Sauls doubled up nicely a couple of times, but made one move too many when he was caught out against Diren. Ikey shoved with 67 off on the button, and was called by Diren, who held A9 suited ♥️ in the big blind. The board ran A high to eliminate Ikey in 4th.
The chip lead then swung several times, which eventually saw Kemal take the major lead after taking a big pot from Diren with AQ.
Gareth took the scraps with AJ against Diren’s J6 suited ♠️. The board ran J high, which saw Gareth out-kick Diren to 3rd.
Kemal held a 3 to 1 chip lead at heads-up but Gareth put up a fight to claw his way level. This included a lucky shove with 42 suited ♥️ into the big blind, which got called by Kemal’s K8. The board ran A3Q85 to give Gareth a rivered straight.
The defining hand saw Gareth call off Jemal’s J10 suited ♦️ with A6 off, hitting a full house to win the tournament.
