Dylan Hughes did enough to take first place at Concept Poker Club Midweek Game #8 in Goodwood on Wednesday night.
It was a grueling final table this week, which went on for 90mins. Each player was decently stacked, which allowed great poker play among the final 9.
It was Dylan and Michael Cupido who took the main assault, eliminating all other seven players between them. Dylan took out the first two players, while Michael knocked out five in a row thereafter.
Inevitably, it was Dylan who landed the important knockout blow heads-up to take down his first Concept crown.
Bradley “Wang” Jansen was first one out, pushing all in with A8. He got called by Dylan’s 4s, with the small pair holding up on a dry board.
Lauren Darvall, making her second final table appearance of the season, had bad luck running into Dylan’s aces with K10, which saw her go out in 8th place.
Graeme Friester was the bubble boy as he dwindled down to the short stack. He pushed all in with J5, which was beaten Mikey’s A9.
Eddie Barlow made a move with A2, but Mike did the damage with A9 again, which saw the former out in 6th place.
Franklin Jodamus was out in fifth before Dilshad Petersen was eliminated holding KQ of hearts. The second lady on the final table got outflopped by Michael’s A2, which hit a two pair.
Ronald Faure go out in third shortly thereafter. His 10 9 suited was crushed by Michael’s K5.
Dylan and Mike agreed a gentleman’s flip for first place, which saw Dylan win with KQ in the telling hand.
The big blind ante structure was a big hit, which allowed a more enjoyable game throughout. The Concept committee will continue to monitor this structure and its results over the next few weeks, and make the necessary adjustments if required.
