CONCEPT GIVES JOY TO THE KIDS AT HEATHERDALE

Concept Poker Club Charity Fund donated over 550 toilet rolls to the Heatherdale Children’s Home in Belgravia, Athlone.

The Concept Poker Club Charity Fund is focused on making a difference at organisations that focus on women and children in need.

The Heatherdale Children’s Home has been taking care of the youth in the Athlone community for over 19 years and were the beneficiaries of our Human Rights Day Charity Run held on Wednesday, 20 March 2019.

The players donated with a warm heart, bringing toilet paper and financial donations, which contributed to the hamper.

“Toiletries, especially toilet paper, is a constant need. It’s awesome receiving so much supplies from your social club. This means we can use funds towards other necessities,” said the Heatherdale evening caretaker.

“The kids are always excited to see new faces in the home. For most of them, they’ve spent most of their lives here. So to receive these surprise goods and spend time with new people is something special to them. We all appreciate your efforts, which will go a long way.”

Concept learned bad news on the day as there are plans in place to close the Heatherdale Children’s Home in the next month or two to transform the facility into a drug rehabilitation centre.

The Heatherdale kids will be sent to other children home’s in and around the Athlone community, to make space.

“It is a sad time for us. We’ve been looking after our children for over 19 years… and now that comes to an end. Like I said, most of our kids only know Heatherdale because they’ve spent most of their lives here. They will have to adapt to new surroundings and faces once they’re placed at a new home. We will do our best to ensure they ”
