Concept Social Poker Club has made its first charity donation of the year, gifting the Kensington Home of the Aged with much-needed food supplies.
Giving back to charity has always been central at Concept Social Poker Club.
In 2019, we were able to donate over R40 000 worth of goods and supplies to those in need.
This week, Concept was able to purchase R3000 worth of Weetbix, sugar and rice for the old age home, which is based several streets away from the club.
Head of the home Mona Angus thanked Concept for supplies.
“We’ve just lost our sponsorship for our breakfast supplies, so these donations come at a perfect time,” said Mona.
“We’ve been through the tough time with little resources over the past two years. We are doing what we can for our organisation, which can be tough… but receiving assistance from people like you goes a long way in make life a little easier for all of us.
“A big thank you to all the members of Concept.”
Committee member Gareth Duncan added it felt good being able to give back to our community.
“Giving back has always been a big part of Concept. Opportunities to do so were not possible during the pandemic, but we can finally do so now as rebuild in 2022,” said Gareth.
“We chose the Kensignton Home for the Aged because they’re in the same area as the club and they need as much help as they can get.
“My grandfather once told me heartbreaking stories of his friends ending up in this very same home because of family neglect and difficult life circumstances.
“Life isn’t easy, so we need to help those around us. Especially our elders. Thanks to all the players for their help and contributions. We will definitely do more good work in our communities this year.”
A big shoutout to Vicki and Jade Moodley for sourcing the supplies.
And special word of thanks to each and every player who has donated via the Lucky Dip, making our charity work possible.
