Concept Social Poker Club made a double donation towards the Bishop Lavis Community Centre, which plays an instrumental role in the area.
There’s a lot wrong in Bishop Lavis at the moment.
From gangsterism to broken homes to lack of opportunities to unemployed and uneducated youth.
However, there’s a ray of hope for young and old in the community thanks to the great work done at the centre, which is heavily supported by volunteer work.
Pastor Wesley, one of the heads of the community centre, made an appearance at Concept Social Poker Club on Thursday night to receive our donations – made possible through the recent Lucky Dip charity runs over the past few games.
The donation will fund 10 children for an upcoming social development programme, while we were also able to donate a heater during a cold winter (special shout-out to Chris Hadzi for arranging it for the club at a great price).
“This donation has perfect timing because there were no funds to include the 10 kids in question. We even approached their schools, but there wasn’t much help available,” said Pastor Wesley.
“Thanks to Concept and your members, we are able to include these children and keep them active in this programme, which promises to have a postive impact on their lives.
“The heater is also much-needed as it gets very cold on some days and nights at our centre. Our elders will appreciate this so much.”
Concept chairman Vicky Moodley (who comes from Bishop Lavis) was on hand to wish Pastor Wesley well for their future endeavours.
“We saw the Bishop Lavis Community Centre as a worthy candidate for this month’s charity donation. They literally play a role for everyone in need in the community… from the students who need access to bursaries, to kids with special needs, to the elderly who see specialists.
“We knew our donations are going to change lives at their centre. We wish Pastor Wesley and his team all for the best ahead of all of their plans to bring positive change in Bishop Lavis.”
A special thanks to all our Concept players who made this donation possible through the Lucky Dip draws.
Concept Social Poker Club will make a donation every month to a registered NPO.
