Cliton Taliwanth was the big winner in the MonsterJam Poker High Roller on Thursday night.
The final 5 brokered a deal, which saw Cliton take the trophy and R500 000 cash for first place.
This follows his impressive 5th place finish in the Mega Millions tourney, which earned him R170 000.
The High Roller victory is the biggest result for a Cape Town regular on the national scene since 2019 _(this excludes the Cape Town-based players who are not active on the local scene).
What adds value to Cliton’s results is the fact he spent a month in Durban playing satellites, and built a R180 000 bankroll worth of seats.
He now focuses on the Main Event, where he hopes to record a hat-trick of cashes.
“I just want to thank everyone in the Cape Town community for the support over the past few days,” Cliton told Concept Poker on a call.
“Even though I’m in Durban, I feel the support. All the messages and well wishes mean a lot, and I hope to continue to fly the Cape Town flag in the Main Event.
“I just want to add the fact that I’ve realised we have a strong level of poker play in Cape Town. Having played in Joburg and now Durban (Sibaya), we need to appreciate the poker pedigree we have among ourselves. And hopefully more Cape Town players can go deep in future events.”
