Clinton Reddy and Gus Leslie were the big winners at the Concept Grand Slam on Sunday.
Both players agreed to split the Top 2 prize money, which saw them walk away with R14 000 apiece. A handsome return for a one-day grind.
The result sees Clinton break a dry spell on live stage, while Poolsmoor Poker regular Gus recorded his first big result at Concept.
Uri Hartuv finished in third place as he got unlucky in a big pot against Clinton. He flopped top pair with 109 on a 985 flop. Clinton made the big call with J10, and spiked the Queen on the Turn for the nut straight. Uri lost the last of his chips to Gus in the next hand as the latter hit a 6-high straight.
Mustak Chothia arrived on final table as the overwhelming chip leader, but he struggled to carry that momentum through to the end. He was eventually all in with 56 ♦️ suited, and called by Gus who tabled K6 ♠️ suited. The 6 flopped, and Gus held up with a better kicker.
Our Dutch friend Valentijn Roeffen picked up his first cash at Concept in 5th place. He was knocked out by Gus, who turned the Ace with A9.
Marc Josephs paid Concept a visit as he’s in town for the MonsterJam Poker Series at GrandWest. He started off very well, building up a big chip stack, but lost crucial races during the business end of the tournament to fall short in 6th place. He tried to make a move with KJ with the short stack, but he ran into Valentijn, who rivered the Queen with KQ.
Two bubble prizes were created for 7th and 8th place, which were picked up by Chris Gin and Grant Hansen respectively.
Chris made his third consecutive live final table this week, which includes the Freeroll Satellite and R600 Turbo – a big achievement. But his run was cut short when his AJ shove was called off by Valentijn with Q10 ♠️ suited. The latter managed to hit the 10 to score the knockout.
Grant made his first final table at Concept. His run was cut short when he lost a race with AQ versus Uri’s pocket 5s as the small pair held up.
