CLIFFORD FORTUIN STRIKES CONCEPT GOLD

Clifford Fortuin found good momentum hitting the business end of Concept Midweek Game #24 to record the win in Goodwood on Thursday.

Cliffy was struggling with a dwindling stack among the final two tables – but two fortunate double-ups set the foundation for his tournament victory.

Just before final table, he went all in with A9 and got called by Jeremey Jodamus, who had him dominated with AJ. Ramees Miller – the overwhelming chip leader at that stage – tanked for a while following Jeremy’s call but opted to fold pocket 8s.

This decision spared Cliffy’s life as the board ran K29 8 2, which would’ve given Ramees a full house.

Among the final 8, Cliffy scored the second double-up. He went to showdown with AK versus last week’s champion Nathaniel Beukes’ with Qs. The king flopped for a massive pot win.

Cliffy carried that momentum through to the end as the last man standing in a field of 35 players.

It didn’t take long before we had our first elimination on final table – Riyadh Slemang shoved his short stack on the first hand with A4. He got called by Bentley, who tabled A10 and held up on a dry board.

Nathaniel couldn’t repeat his heroics as he fell out in 8th. After losing most of his chips to Cliffy, he was forced all in during the next hand on the big blind. He managed to hit two pair with 82, but got knocked out by Imraan Khan, who had a better two pair with Q2.

Jeremy Jodamus – who’s been making regular final tables in recent weeks – found himself hitting the rail in 7th. He was all in with 7s and got called by two players – Ramees Miller (AQ) and Cliffy (8s). On an A35 flop, Ramees bet, which saw Cliffy fold. And he held on to top pair to score the knockout.

The final 6 then decided to create a bubble prize, which meant they all made the money.

Gareth Duncan then got eliminated in 6th during a battle between the blinds. With just 8 blinds, Gareth shoved with Q10. But he had terrible timing, running into Kemal Kahn’s Aces in the big blind. Kemal went on to hit a full house to win the hand.

Kemal hit another knockout as he sent Bentley Louw home in 5th. Bentley held AJ and was ahead, until Kemal hit a straight on the River with KQ.

Imraan was gone in 4th when he suffered a bad beat. He was ahead with K9 against Ramees, who made the all in call with K5. But the 5 hit to see Immie hit the rail.

Ramees’ hot form ran cold as he was out in 4th. He was all in with A10 ♠️ suited and got called by Cliffy, who held K10. Cliffy spiked the king to win the pot.

Kemaal (R2700) and Cliffy (R3300) then agreed to split the prize money, favouring the latter with more chips.

To decide the tournament, they did a three-hand flip, which Cliffy won with 34 suited ♦️.
