Chris Dean ran good during the final stretch of Concept Poker Midweek Game #2 as he took first place at Goodwood Cricket Club on Wednesday night.
While the final four players agreed on a financial split on the cash, the group played for the points – which saw Chris race to first place.
The bald-headed assassin – a la Hitman – ran smooth during the final two tables, as he eliminated several players en route to the gold.
Notable hands included cracking Ronald Napala’s Aces with pocket threes. A raise-reraise scenario saw Ronald go all-in preflop, only for his bullets to be cracked on the turn by the small pocket set.
But more impressively… Chris’s soul-searching call with a pair of Aces on a four spade board against Niven Naidoo’s sizeable river bluff bet set the foundation for his victory. Niven tried to steal a big three-way pot with a 100 000 bet on the final street, but Chris didn’t have any of it, calling with just top pair.
Eventually, it was Chris and Rayno Beselaar who went heads-up in the end, with 4-5 beating QJ after an all-in run out. While Rayno had an up-and-down and two overs on a K 10 4 flop, the turn and river bricked to crown Chris as this week’s champion.
A special mention should go out to Carmen September, who made back-to-back final tables!
