We sadly confirm the tragic and sudden passing of Concept Social Poker Club chairman and Cape Town poker legend Vickey Moodley.
He suffered a suspected cardiac arrest in the early hours of Tuesday morning, shortly after complaining about chest pains and fever.
He was 41 years old, and is survived by his wife Chantel and two daughters Jade and Mackenzie.
Vickey is a big loss to the poker community.
As a regular on the biggest stages in Africa, he was one of the top-performing players from Cape Town. His best result was the 4th place finish in the 2019 WPT High Roller in Johannesburg, where he cashed R200 000.
In that same year, he was crowned Concept Social Poker league champion, outplaying 317 players to top spot. A monumental achievement after a 10-month league campaign.
As club chairman, he worked tirelessly and unselfishly behind the scenes as the organising team did well to rebuild Concept after the pandemic.
Many don’t know that Concept nearly closed its doors in 2021, but Vickey, Gareth Duncan and his daughter Jade dug deep to keep the club alive. And today, we have a thriving poker platform for live and online tournaments.
Vickey will be remembered for his impact off the table too.
He was a people’s person and well-respected by most. Whether it was a R50 Rebuy or a R30 000 High Roller, he was always able to fit in and connect with most players around the table.
He was passionately involved in the Concept Charity Drives as he always wanted to make a difference for those in need in our communities.
Personally, he was always willing to lend a hand – always selfless and compassionate. There are many stories where Vickey came to the rescue for players in tough times.
Vickey Moodley will be remembered as a true ambassador of the game.

Concept Social Poker Club has been in close contact with the family, and will communicate funeral plans once confirmed.
Concept is already developing plans to assist the family where needed, and this will also be communicated in due time.
It’s been heart-warming to see how many players are already wanting to jump on board to support immediately.
This proves what Vickey meant to our community.
We have truly lost a legend.
But as Concept, we will do everything in our power to celebrate his life, and ensure his legacy lives on forever.
