Shane Davids won his first Concept tournament of the season at Midweek Game #33 last Wednesday night in Goodwood.
Shane, playing in just his second Concept final table, had a balanced approach to play. With regular eliminations around him, he paced himself well through each blind level.
And it was a tough grind from the outset as Bentley Louw was the first player out in 9th place. Battling with the short stack, he made a move with with K5 off, but ran into Clint Blanchard’s pocket 9s, which hit quads.
Imraan Khan hit the rail next in 8th place as he made a move with 45 ♣️ suited. Clint made the call with AJ, and won with Ace high on a dry board.
Pine Pienaar was eliminated in 7th as he shoved all in with pocket 10s. He got called by Robin Kayalsum, who tabled AJ. Robbie streamrolled the pair with a full house.
Vicky Moodley was knocked out in 6th place with pocket 8s. Moving all in with the medium pair, he got called by Robbie’s AQ, which flopped a Queen for the pot.
Blamo Brookes was next to exit in 5th place when he was committed with K10 against Naytan Beukes’ A10. Both players hit the 10 ball, but it was Naytan’s superior kicker which won the hand.
Clint Blanchard’s early steam ran out when he was eliminated in 4th place. Clint was all in with A3 ♦️ suited and got matched by Naytan holding A5. Odds were strong on a split pot as both players had small kickers, but Naytan managed to hit a straight thanks to the 5.
Naytan unfortunately got stacked after that pot, and was eventually all in with Q3. Robbie made the call in the big blind with 53. Despite being dominated, Robin found the 5 to score the knockout – Naytan our in 3rd place.
Robin Kaylasum and Shane then went heads-up after agreeing a split on the leftover prize money. Both players received R4000 each and played for the R500 surplus and league points.
After jousting for a good session, Robbie was eventually all in with K2. He was matched by Shane with J10, which flopped the straight for the tourney victory.
