MATT FABING POWERS TO CONCEPT WIN

Matthew Fabing’s aggressive play scored him first place at Concept’s Midweek Game #18 at Goodwood on Thursday.

Matthew picked his spots correctly and cleverly during an entertaining field of 51 players. This helped him build one of the bigger stack going into final table.

While fairly reserved early on among the final 9, Matt become aggressive when it came to the final 6, and used his chip advantage to great effect as he applied “all in” pressure when he sensed weakness. This was critical on his route victory.

Lauren Darvall was first out in 9th on final table in unfortunate bad beat fashion. She moved all in with AJ and got called by Concept newcomer Lyle Patience in the big blind, tabling A10. The board ran in Lauren’s favour until a River 10 hit her to the rail.

Randy Dammert had a patient build-up to his first final table appearance of the season, but his grind came to an end in 7th. He shipped with the short stack in late position with A7, but ran into Matt’s pocket 4s in the big blind. Randy received more outs on a KK5 flop, with the chance of counterfeiting baby pair, but there was no luck on turn and river as Matt held up.

As the players entered into the money, Keegan Florence was next to exit in 7th. He pushed a sizeable stack all in with A9 ❤️ suited and was called by Charl September, who initially raised under the gun with KJ off. After tanking, Charl made the big call and spiked the K on the turn to send Keegan home.

Jeremey Jodamus was out next in 6th. After a losing most of his chips in a three way pot, he shoved a small stack with A2. He got called by Charl, who tabled AJ and held up.

Bentley Louw made back-to-back final table appearances, but fell to 5th place as his stack dwindled down. He shoved on the button with J9, but was dominated when Matthew called in the big blind with J10. An action flop of Q107 gave Bentley more outs with the up and down straight draw, but Matt held up to secure the knock-out.

Charl was out in 4th when he hero-called with mid-pair against Dorian Davids, who managed to hit straight on the river with 7-4 off.

Lyle was eliminated soon thereafter as his 98 suited ♦️ crashed against Matt’s A6 suited ♦️. An ace on the flop sealed his fate.

Matt then won the game with pocket 3s, which went into showdown against Dorian’s KJ. Matt flopped a set to take down the tourney!
