The first Concept Poker charity run of the season was an outstanding success, which saw a sizable hamper donated to the Christine Revell Children’s Home in Athlone.
The Christine Revell Children’s Home originated 60 years ago when a community worker, Christine Revell, volunteered her time to care for young, unwed mothers. The Uniting Reformed Church subsequently converted the home into a children’s home and named it after the great servant to the Athlone community.
The centre provides services to 49 boys and girls from birth to 5 years. Many of the children are either neglected, abandoned, abused, orphaned and are accepted at the home for care.
The Concept Poker players collected toiletries and made cash donations towards a huge hamper, which was received by charity representative Carmelita.
“This is an amazing surprise. We didn’t expect this at all. This will definitely go a long way to assist the home and our children. We face so many challenges every day, but this makes things easier of all of us. We really appreciate this hamper from the Concept Poker Club.”
Shaun Julie, the chairman of the Concept Poker Club, expressed his delight after an amazing charity run.
“As a committee, we set a goal for the club to create a culture of giving back, especially to women and children who need the assistance. The Christine Revell Children’s Home was a great choice as they help kids in our communities. To see all the players willingly play their part in making a difference was really heart-warming… and it excites me as we’ve planned many more charity runs for the season ahead.”
