MR CHETTY: THE KING OF THE GRIND!

Francis Chetty, poker

Francis Chetty was crowned champion in the R800 Grind at Concept on Sunday.

Mr Chetty’s overall improvement this year was noticeable in this fixture as the the win was well deserved.

The CT poker veteran showed greater patience than usual and played his cards well en route to victory.

He was also woke up with Kings regularly in the tournament, and won big pots with most of them. “I’ve never held up so many times with Kings,” he shouted.

Francis was last man standing in a field of 34 players, which created a *prize pool of R28800!*

A final table deal saw him earn R8000 for first place (original 1st prize was R9000).

Francis beat Melkbos newcomer Eben Human in the heads-up battle.

Despite not being familiar with the field, Eben adapted well to the Concept crowd and impressed with second place, cashing R5500.

The tournament defining hand saw Francis hit two pair with 52 on the Turn, which saw Eben fall short with top pair of 8s.

Bradley Jansen messaged me on Sunday morning about his good feeling of cashing after winning his seat for cheap via a satellite. And he did just that… finishing in 3rd place. He shoved A5 on the button, and unfortunately ran into Francis, who held Kings in the big blind and held up.

Reza Slamang was knocked out in a respectable 4th place. He lost most of his chips to Eben as he called all in with 56 on a 543 flop. Eben tabled bottom two pair – 43 – and held up.

Brian Sampson shoved all in with KJ against Mr Chetty’s pocket 5s, and fell out in 6th place as the small pocket pair held up.

Imran Khan was out in 6th as he made a move with the short stack, and shoved with K6 ♥️ suited from the small blind. But Reza called with A5 in the big blind and connected with board to score the knockout.

Two bubble prizes were agreed on final table for 7th and 8th place respectively, and these were picked up by Mustak Chothia and Ryan Johnson respectively.
