Tony Smith played his way to first place at Concept Midweek Game #12 in Maitland last Thursday night.
It was a good result for the player known as acedj on PokerBros as he showed good composure to make a comeback in the heads-up battle.
Against Riyadh Slamang, Tony found himself down on chips after losing a big hand. But he played his way back into the contest – hitting a flush with J2 ♥️ suited in the tournament-deciding hand.
After a few final table deals, Tony walked away with R3500 for the gold, while Riyadh received R2500 in second place.
Herman Nelissen also played a good game, but was unlucky in the latter stages to be knocked out in third. On a 9-high flip, he had kicker problems with J9 vs Tony’s Q9.
Ashton Schaper made the money during his first Concept appearance. He finished 4th when he was knocked out against Riyadh’s pocket Kings.
Gareth Duncan secured the R500 bubble prize in 5th place after being knocked out with A8 against Riyadh’s pocket 4s – the small pair hit a set on the Turn.
Vicky Moodley ended in 6th place as he shoved 5s into a three-way all in pot against Riyadh’s Jacks and Gareth’s AQ. The Jacks held up.
Allan Ranzani finished 7th, despite hitting trips with A10. Herman showed a full house with pocket 4s to score the knockout.
Strini Govender (8th) and Brian Sampson (9th) picked up valuable points as they made the Top 9.
*BONUS POINTS!*
Mercia Sampson scored bonus points after she flopped Quad 2s, and the hand reached showdown.
Riyadh Slamang claimed the bounty after knocking out defending champ Gareth Duncan.
